Yarn Harlot

As regular readers of Simply Knitting may have noticed, we've been fans of Stephanie Pearl-McPhee for quite a while, and what better time to review her blog, the Yarn Harlot, than when she's just set foot in the UK for the first time?

Stephanie has crossed the pond to speak at the I Knit Day in London tomorrow. Unsurprisingly, tickets to her talk have sold out, but we think there might be a few tickets to the rest of the event left. If you can't make it to London, don't worry. We'll tell you all about it in issue 47, on sale Thursday 9 October 2008.

Now, back to the matter at hand: the Yarn Harlot blog, and why we love it.

We love it because it's funny.

That's not to say that Stephanie makes us laugh so hard we spill our tea every single day – although it has happened – but all her posts are injected with a clear sense of humour. If visiting a blog is like stepping into someone's living room, then this is like visiting a friend you know well enough that she didn't bother to tidy up. The sofas are cosy, there's tea in the pot and Stephanie in the middle of it all saying "Relax, it's only knitting."

She's also willing to tackle difficult subjects like ripping back a finished sock and poor health care in developing countries, and regularly fundraises for Médecins Sans Frontières. Stephanie is also a keen sock photographer, so look out for more London landmarks slightly obscured by a WIP as she finds her way around the capital.

Read a great blog? Write a great blog? Tell us what it is and why you like it, and you might see it here next Friday.
