Hello, everyone. We’ve been pretty busy here at SK, but not as busy as the inimitable Betsan Corkhill. As if she didn’t have enough to do running Stitchlinks already, she's now gone and produced some fab guides to knitting socks, which are ideal for beginners – and everyone else besides.
The guides are FREE to download from the website - go to the menu on the left-hand side of the homepage and click FREE STUFF.
Stitchlinks, started by Betsan, does brilliant work promoting friendship and knitting, and she is always out there promoting the benefits of knitting as therapy. Now she’s trying to get even more of us embroiled in the joy of the craft by sharing her sock-knitting wisdom with the world.
So if you're planning to enter our fabulous Sock Competition that's sponsored by Colinette, you may find these guides handy. For more details on the competition see issue 21. An entry form will be printed in issue 22 that goes on sale from 9th November.
The three-part guides feature a list of dos and don’ts, all of which Betsan proclaims to have discovered the hard way… We know what she means, too, there’s nothing like making a long and complicated error to make you commit the tricky techniques to memory.
Betsan’s clear, chatty and, most importantly, accurate instructions should keep us on the straight and narrow, though, avoiding any major pitfalls. While there’s definitely some comedy value in a pair of ill-fitting socks, with the cold winter we’ve been promised, we’d rather have a perfect, snuggly pair. So three cheers for Betsan!
